Since its inception in 1997 (formerly known as Ichen Art Studio), Ichen Art Academy has been putting relentless focus on developing high-quality art programs, reflected through its students’ artworks and measured by its students’ achievements. Many of its art-major students have now gone on to renowned art colleges and most prestigious majors such as CalArt’s Character Animation, ArtCenter’s Entertainment Design and Rhode Island School of Design. Some art-major students from early years have found employments in high-tech companies such as Google, Facebook and Netflix. Similarly, its non-art-major students have been accepted by nation’s top universities such as Harvard, Stanford, Princeton and MIT with the help of submission of a strong supplemental art portfolio. By consistently winning large numbers of national level awards in art competitions, Ichen Art Academy students’ skill levels and artworks are among the best in every age group.

Systematic and Comprehensive K-12 Art Education
Ichen Art Academy offers systematic and comprehensive art education to K-12 students and adults. All of its instructors are highly accomplished artists with many years of teaching and industry experience. Currently the following programs are offered

Art Consultation Service for College Applications
The art counselor team at Ichen Art Academy specializes in helping art-major students prepare strong college art portfolios and apply for top art colleges and majors in the US. The team is also responsible for helping non-art-major students develop robust supplemental art portfolios for applying top private universities.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We partner with Youth Art Foundation, a non-profit organization to help our students develop leadership and utilize their art talents and skills to make positive contributions to their communities.

CAMP FACILITIES: There is a main house, where some campers stay, where meals are served, and where on-site activities are centered. Campers not staying in the main house stay in outlying cottages.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: At Land and Sea Camp the focus will be on volcanoes (geology) and the ocean (oceanography). You will visit Kilauea, the world's most active (and easily studied) volcano. You will see footprints in hardened ash that are over 200 years old. You will see one of the world's greatest mineral collections and visit beaches made entirely of minerals. You will learn not just about the events that take place in the natural world but experience first-hand how they affect plants, animals, and humans.

Air and Space Camp will give you the chance to learn about Earth's atmosphere, about climate, and about space. You will visit observatories and the centers where astronomers work. You will learn how scientists study concentrations of substances in our atmosphere. You will see alternate energy development in action and gain a better understanding of climate change and be better prepared to participate in the solutions to the challenges you will face. The Big Island of Hawaii is the ideal location for experiencing the air and space sciences. Join us!

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: A counselor in training program is available for teens ages 18-19 who have already graduated high school.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Scholarships and Financial Aid available.

CAMP FACILITIES: We adventure with our backpacks and camp together in tents. We cook incredible feasts on our camp stoves.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Founder and Camp Director Renee grew up as a teenager spending her days hiking the hills, exploring the valleys, swimming the ocean and waterfalls, falling in love with and learning from the Big Island of Hawaii. She dreamt of sharing that incredible feeling of adventure, wide open exploration, beauty, and connection to the land with others. Ola Camp Hawaii is that dream come true. CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Ola Hawaii Camp teaches group living, backcountry travel, leadership, decision making, and cultural competency.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Ola Hawaii Camp tuition doesn't include airfare. This is so families can use miles and fit travel into busy summer plans. It's also because we encourage you to plan a family trip to the Big Island before or after camp and would be happy to help you plan it!
