BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: The Conservancy offers full-day nature camps in one week sessions at our Mt. Pleasant location in Woodstock, MD and our Belmont location in Elkridge, MD. Our nature camps encourage children to learn about Howard County’s natural history through hikes, experiments, stories, and hands-on exploration of our nature centers and parkland.

Howard County Conservancy - Mt. Pleasant is a Top Leadership Summer Camp located in Woodstock Maryland offering many fun and educational Leadership and other activities, including: Academics, Science, Wilderness/Nature and more. Howard County Conservancy - Mt. Pleasant is a top Leadership Camp for ages: 5-12.

CAMP LOCATION: Headquartered at the 300 year old, 232-acre Mt. Pleasant Farm in Woodstock, Maryland, our camp offers 4 miles of trails through wetlands, forests and meadows. We are delighted to offer programs on the eastern portion of the county as well at the Belmont Manor and Historic Park in Elkridge, Maryland.

CAMP FACILITIES: The Conservancy is steward to Mt. Pleasant's farmhouse, circa 1692, as well as its eight farm outbuildings, circa 1900. We are also home to Montjoy Barn, thought to be the oldest barn in Howard County. Montjoy was saved from demolition, disassembled and rebuilt on the grounds of the Conservancy.

Modern amenities are located in the newly-expanded and renovated Gudelsky Environmental Education Center. Campers will use the classroom as well as barns and open space.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Conservancy offers full-day nature camps in one week sessions at our Mt. Pleasant location in Woodstock, MD and our Belmont location in Elkridge, MD. Our nature camps encourage children to learn about Howard County’s ecology and natural history through fun and exciting hikes, experiments, stories, and hands-on exploration of our nature centers and parkland. Camps will include outdoor skills and all-camp activities as well.

Nature camp runs from 9:00am – 3:30pm with Before and After Care options available. Campers must be between the ages of 5 – 12.

The Conservancy’s camps are designed to nurture respect for the natural world, increase awareness of environmental issues and instill a sense of stewardship. Campers will hike, explore the landscape, participate in stewardship projects, play nature games and create earth friendly arts and crafts!

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We are actively seeking Assistant Counselors ages 16 and above who are interested in leadership and service opportunities. There is no application fee.

Students age 13 - 15 and above are invited to apply for a Junior Counselor position, which has a reduced camper fee.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: The Howard County Conservancy is a partner with the Howard County Public School System. We offer field trips, school outreach programs, School's Out programs, adult trainings, and public events throughout the year. CAMP LOCATION: We are located on 140 acres of waterfront property on the Eastern Shore of Maryland's Chesapeake Bay. We have beach areas that overlook the Bay Bridge as well as forest trails, open fields, and a wooded cabin village. We are just 2 miles from the first exit off of US 50/301 E after you cross the Bay Bridge.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have 19 rustic cabins situated both on the waterfront and in the woods. Tennis, basketball and sand volleyball courts as well as soccer and softball fields are available for all campers' enjoyment. Our outdoor chapel, junior olympic swimming pool, and open air pavilion are great gathering places on hot summer days.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Wright is an ACA accredited camp and is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Easton. Founded in 1930, Camp Wright offers summer camps and other programs that develop children of all ages and backgrounds through living, recreating, singing and praying in an environment that promotes leadership and individual growth.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We have leadership programs for both our Day and Resident campers. These programs include traditional camp activities along with teambuilding exercises, leadership skill development and offsite trips.

Day Camp offer a Leadership Adventure Program for 6th-8th graders.

Resident Camp offers Senior High Leadership, Senior High Adventure Camp, and Senior Camp Session for 9th-11th graders.

The Resident Camp also offers a CIT program where teens who have completed 10th- 11th grade choose two weeks during the summer for their training. One week is spent working in the kitchen for half the day and the other half helping with programming for younger campers. The other week is spent in the cabin with campers and full time staff to really get a feel for what it is like to be counselor.

TIC Summer Camp is the premiere sports and technology option for kids ages 7-16 in the DC area. Four two-week summer sessions in which campers design their own project in one of the following: programming, filmmaking, animation, robotics, graphic design, digital photography and digital music. SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: Because of our 4:1 teaching ratio and the supportive nature of our staff, TIC has had success with children who have mild learning disabilities (dyslexia, ADD, ADHD). We have also served children with physical disabilities (e.g. deafness or spina bifida). However, our staff is not trained in special education. Therefore, parents of children with behavioral conditions which require very close supervision must, before submitting an application, discuss with us whether TIC is appropriate for their child.

If you believe a job is to inspire and create, smiles are a part of the uniform and don't mind occasionally getting tangled in thread we need to talk! The Handwork Studio is on the search for that ‘needle in a haystack’ to help us forge ahead on our mission to educate children in the needle-arts.

Qualified Candidates Must:
-- Be passionate, warm, caring and ultimately a happy person that will bring excitement to the classroom
-- Be high energy; able to sit on the floor and/or stand for an extended period of time
-- Enjoy crafting in one or more of the following skills: knitting, crocheting, machine and hand sewing, embroidery, etc. You do not need to be an expert. We will train you on our methods.
-- Enjoy working with children between the ages of 5-16 years
-- Possess infinite patience
-- Be neat and organized
-- Be willing to work generally Monday-Fridays (approx. 8:30-3:30) during the months of June, July and August. This schedule can vary slightly based on program and geographic location.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: West River Center is a United Methodist summer camp that has 1 week overnight or day camp options. It is a traditional summer camp for campers going into 1st-12th grade and has many activities like rock climbing, kayaking, archery, field games, and a giant swing.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have 5 cabins that sleep 32 maximum with bedrooms of 2 bunkbeds each and a common room in the middle. The Retreat Center is our most recently renovated building which also has a common room and a larger tiled room for activities. There is an outdoor pool, archery range, climbing tower, low ropes course, basketball court, volleyball court, large meeting hall, dining hall, hiking trail, and a mile of riverfront on the West River for kayaking, sailing, canoeing, and banana boating.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We are a United Methodist camp which is infused into the attitude of staff and the culture of the camp. We mix Bible study and worship with our outdoor recreational activities to give a rounded camp adventure. We have activity staff to lead our trained positions every summer and day camp counselors, most of our overnight counselors are volunteers from local communities and churches who come every year. We have been in operation on this site since 1951 and have continued to add to and adapt the camp to make the biggest impact on campers and staff. We want everyone who comes to West River to grow in their love of God, self, neighbor, and nature.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We offer a CIT program for campers of at least 16 years of age, registration is on our website with the other camp programs.

This program challenges students to re-examine themselves as individuals and leaders through innovative workshops crafted according to their unique needs, individual goal setting and a culminating project focused on real-world application of leadership skills.

Journey (July 15-21, 2018): For Howard County girls entering 8th or 9th grade in Fall 2018. Support for this program has been provided by the Women's Giving Circle, a fund of the Community Foundation of Howard County. BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Located on the scenic Chester River, Camp Pecometh is a rustic overnight and day camp serving campers aged 5-17. SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: One week during the summer, Pecometh offers a Summer Respite program, a camping experience to campers over 16 who are mentally and/or physically challenged. CAMP LOCATION: Pecometh is located on 275 acres right on the Chester River in Queen Anne's County, Maryland. We're approximately 45 minutes from Baltimore, just north of the Bay Bridge, and about 1 hour from Wilmington, DE.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have 4 cabin groups, or "hills," with 4-8 rustic cabins per hill, as well as 3 air-conditioned, dormitory-style buildings. All areas have access to multiple volleyball courts, basketball nets, our outdoor pool, and gaga pit. A modern dining hall and health center, along with rustic trading post, fellowship hall, and outdoor chapel are all located along the Chester River.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Pecometh is proudly accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Established in 1946, we have been providing campers with life-changing, God-inspired experiences for over 70 years. Summer Camp sessions are typically five days in length, beginning on Sunday afternoon and ending after lunch on Fridays. Depending on the program, campers stay in rustic cabins or dorm-style facilities, and are supervised by our trained staff 24 hours a day.

All of our counselors are at least 18 years of age or graduated from high school and have received professional training, including First-Aid & CPR/AED certifications and bullying awareness and prevention training. Our Lifeguards are certified through the American Red Cross. There is a nurse on site at all times and the closest major hospital is less than 15 miles away. Our dining hall serves up tasty, nutritious meals and campers can have all they want, including fruit and salad bar at lunch and dinner.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Pecometh offers a Staff-in-Training leadership program for participants who are completing 10th or 11th grade. This is an intensive 2-week program that includes hands-on leadership training and experience, and earns participants nearly 60 volunteer hours! CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Pecometh offers a campership program for families in need of assistance. We also offer a grant program for campers who receive federal assistance. CAMP FACILITIES: We are located at Eastport Yacht Club, not your traditional blue blazer club. EYC is built on activity, on the water and ashore. Members are involved in diverse range of boating activities, supported by social events and strong camaraderie. Our Clubhouse offers a million-dollar view: the historic Annapolis skyline, Severn River, Naval Academy, Bay Bridge, Eastern Shore, and of course the Chesapeake Bay. The EYC calendar is full of social activities and worthwhile, high visibility events. It's mission statement includes support responsibility to youth development.

The clubhouse includes marina, showers, bar, restaurant and banquet facilities.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: EYC is a Learn-to-Sail program which promotes lifelong friendships & boaters who appreciate the sport and the environment! Our program builds confidence, solid foundation skills, environmental awareness and includes STEM/environmental education, with progressive, engaging, fun curriculum.

We teach progressive skill levels from beginner to advanced in each fleet (ages 6-15), Jr. Big Boat, Bay Cruiser'/Adventure sailing, paddling, and power-boating sessions. EYC’s fleet includes Blue Dragon prams, Sunfish, RS Fevas (with asymmetrical spinnaker), Mistral Wind Gliders, J22 keelboats (+J70s, J80s, J30s) kayaks, paddleboards; Boston Whalers and RHB Zodiac powerboats. EYC runs a 9 week summer program, fall/spring after school, powerboat, adult, J22 team/match race team, and member access program.

Our instructors are US Sailing certified instructors and our program is National On-Water standards certified.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Learn to Sail as a Family!
Kids don't need to be the only ones having all the fun! This summer we are offering sessions to take lessons with your child and/or with other parents while your children are in another class. This option is offered to parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles with children age 8 and up. The program will be a Learn-to-Sail curriculum that teaches student the basics of boat handling, seamanship, safety, and teamwork. The curriculum will develop competence and confidence in our sailors in a safe and fun learning environment. The courses will mainly use our J22 keelboat fleet with options to try other boats (ability & size appropriate), and fleet of kayaks and paddleboards.

Children must be 8 yrs old and of course no age limit for 'Big Kids'. NOTE: 'Big Kids' need to register as well as child.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis with limited class sizes.

EYC members can continue to practice boating skills and fun with affordable and convenient way to get out on the water using our fleet of paddleboards, sailing dinghies, and keelboats through our Member Watercraft Access Program (WAP).

AFFILIATION(S): We rent from a Christian church, but the program itself has no religious affiliation. Campers do not participate in religious ceremonies or discussion

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: There is access to students in wheel chairs. The director also has a Masters in Special Education. We can help those with physical limitations and they will be able to go outside with us and to participate in the arts program. We can also help students with learning disabilities. We do not, however, have a program targeting the needs of such campers. Anyone with special needs must be capable of a mainstreamed experience. Address you particular concerns when calling the camp to enroll.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Dance, Theater, Musical Theater, Music/Band, Fine Arts/Crafts, Baseball, Soccer, Team Sports, Academics, and more.

CAMP LOCATION: We are within two blocks of the Montrose exit of 270. We are two blocks from the intersection of Montrose and Seven Locks Road, convenient to Potomac, Bethesda, and Rockville.

CAMP FACILITIES: There is a large room for the activities of each language group. We have kitchen facilities where your child's lunch can be stored and an outdoor field for children to go out to play when the weather permits. We also have WIFI and a projector and large screen at our disposal.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Children become part of a theatre troupe, and are immersed in ESL (English as a Second Language), French, Chinese or Spanish. There is a performance at the end of each two-week session. Daily activities include: sports, theatre and music games, crafts and practice for a performance.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: CIT is for young teens who already can speak fluently or who are almost fluent in the target language. They pay as campers and will be helped to refine their language skills and to learn how to work with younger students. They will be assigned specific tasks each day and discuss the day with the counselors daily. At the end of camp, each one who participated successfully will be able to receive a recommendation from the director in the case that they apply to work at another camp. They also may become eligible eventually to be paid assistants in our camp when they are old enough (currently 18).

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Early enrollment receives a 20% discount (February) and a 10% March 1 - 15. No registration fee until March 15th. All campers pay a materials fee of $10.00 a week.

At this time there is no formal scholarship or financial aid program, but if your family has a hardship, contact the director.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): The children will learn their target language, theatre and music through games and exercises daily, and through these experiences, build a show to share with their parents. All activities - music, theatre, crafts, sports, recess, and games - will be used by the staff to lead to an enrichment in the target language. The program attracts both those who are fluent (who concentrate mostly on the arts aspect and the fun and who can become leaders, helping their peers to speak better) and those who are beginners and of various levels of language speaking.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Children focus on the theatre skills; we focus on their language skills. This is a dramatic way to prepare your child for this global economy!

The director, Kaaren Agnez, has a professional theatre background. Counselors are trained in theatre and working with children and speak their target language fluently; most are natives. All speak at a native level: most are native speakers. Your children will learn the best of movement and improvisational theatre techniques, and all that in a way that helps them to speak another language.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
We are looking for native Chinese, Spanish and French speakers to be counselors or assistant counselors. Must have some skills in sports, theatre or arts and/or extensive experience with children or education. We do train all counselors. Full-time summer work is seasonal and during the year we offer part-time work. Counselors start a week before the camp itself: June 6th.

Howard County Conservancy - Belmont is a Top Leadership Summer Camp located in Elkridge Maryland offering many fun and educational Leadership and other activities, including: Academics, Science, Wilderness/Nature and more. Howard County Conservancy - Belmont is a top Leadership Camp for ages: 5-12.

CAMP LOCATION: The Conservancy is honored to be chosen by Howard County Recreation and Parks as the nonprofit partner to provide environmental education programs at the county’s new Belmont Manor and Historic Park in Elkridge. Conservancy programs and offices will be located in the Carriage House on the park’s grounds and will utilize both Belmont parkland as well as the surrounding 16,000 acre Patapsco State Park.

CAMP FACILITIES: Belmont Manor and Historic Park is nestled within Patapsco State Park near Elkridge. Campers will be utilizing the Carriage House for indoor programs, and meadows, forests and ponds for outdoor programs.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Conservancy offers full-day nature camps in one week sessions at our Mt. Pleasant location in Woodstock, MD and our Belmont location in Elkridge, MD. Our nature camps encourage children to learn about Howard County’s ecology and natural history through fun and exciting hikes, experiments, stories, and hands-on exploration of our nature centers and parkland. Camps will include outdoor skills and all-camp activities as well.

Nature camp runs from 9:00am – 3:30pm with Before and After Care options available. Campers must be between the ages of 5 – 12.

The Conservancy’s camps are designed to nurture respect for the natural world, increase awareness of environmental issues and instill a sense of stewardship. Campers will hike, explore the landscape, participate in stewardship projects, play nature games and create earth friendly arts and crafts!

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Campers ages 13-15 are invited to apply to become a Junior Counselor with a reduced camp fee. Volunteers ages 16-18 are invited to work as an Assistant Counselor. There is no fee for Assistant Counselors.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: The Howard County Conservancy is a partner with the Howard County Public School System. We offer field trips, school outreach programs, School's Out programs, adult trainings, and public events throughout the year. CAMP LOCATION: Glenelg Country School offers summer programs on an idyllic over 90-acre wooded campus in Howard County, just outside of Baltimore, Maryland.

CAMP FACILITIES: Glenelg Country School campers enjoy opportunities to utilize the pool, athletic center, tennis courts, playing fields, theater, outdoor amphitheater, technology labs, pond, outdoor classrooms, and other amenities.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Glenelg Country School has been offering quality summer programs for over 30 years. Our Summer programs provide children entering Pre-K4 through grade 12 with a fun and educational experience in a relaxed and safe environment. These programs include traditional, adventure, sport, and specialized day camps and sport clinics. A Counselor-in-Training program is also offered for high school aged students.

Extended day program, bus service, swim lessons, and pool memberships are also available. Our summer programs are staffed by members of the Glenelg Country School faculty, supplemented by other qualified professionals, and assisted by junior counselors; all staff members undergo a criminal background check and we maintain a camper-to-staff ratio of less that 10 to 1.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: The Counselor in Training Program offers opportunities for older campers to work on leadership skills during the summer, including hands-on activities, team-building, communication, and problem-solving.

CAMP LOCATION: We are located in Columbia, MD not far from The Columbia Mall, Howard Community College, and Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have a beautiful space that includes a state of the art yoga studio and a workshop/classroom that allows for lots of hands-on learning.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: At Camp IO, children ages 5-12 have fun with hands-on science activities and making cool things. They take a look at how everyday objects work and the world around them. Each day, campers switch their outer science tools for a yoga mat and learn about the inner science of yoga. They learn about fun and easy ways to stay healthy and harmonize their bodies, minds and energy to decrease stress, increase endurance and improve focus.

Our mission is to offer children a safe, fun, encouraging and enriching environment to learn and practice the outer science of engineering and the inner science of yoga. All of our activities combine inquiry-based learning with the STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) initiative in mind.

“Hands-on” means that your child can engage the five senses when learning. Research shows that more information is retained when learning is active and participant-based. Camp IO is an exciting and engaging way for children to learn, be enriched and interact in a mindful way with the world around them.

Camp IO was created by Antoinette Murray (Murray Educational Services), Joseph Murray and Valencia Wood (SoilSound). Together, they provide an exceptional hands-on science and yoga experience. In addition to Camp IO, they offer programs in public and private schools and conduct workshops for children and adults in Howard County, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Washington, DC and Virginia.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Children ages 13 - 17 can apply to be a CIT. Please call for more information.

Do you like Minecraft? If so, you’ll love crafting real-life items! Combine old, new and in-between to make a variety of things, including a bow and arrow, fishing rod, dyes and more. No creepers allowed!

Land, Sea and Air, Oh My! | July 25 - July 29
Four wheels, three wheels, two wheels, no wheels! What can you use to get from point A to point B? Learn about and build a variety of miniature modes of transportation. Experiment with balance, flotation, propulsion, lift and more.

Game On! | August 1 - August 5
Play classic and modern board, card and roleplaying games. Discuss their mechanics and what makes them fun! Construct game boards, pawns and cards. Design your own game as an individual and as a group. Your group game will be kept at Camp IO for future campers to play!

The Magic Art of Yoga | August 8 - August 12
Create a variety of individual and group calligraphy paintings, Ikebana (flower arrangements), zen gardens, mandalas and yantras. Learn about and practice traditional and freestyle techniques. Examine the use of symbols, math and colors in ancient yogic artwork and contemplative practices.

The Yoga of Tea | August 15 - August 19
Where does tea come from? How is it made? What is tea meditation? Explore the answers to these questions and many more as we enjoy ten different types of tea, and play with chemistry to make your own custom blend.

Step Right Up to Funhouse Science! | August 22 - August 26
Funny mirrors, optical illusions, crazy carnival games, hocus pocus, perfect popped kettle corn and more! What's the science behind all of the fun?

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Horses/Equestrian, Waterfront/Aquatics, and more. Horseback Riding

CAMP LOCATION: We are located 8 miles south of Hagerstown Maryland on 128 acres

CAMP FACILITIES: We have two outdoor riding arenas, a cross country jump course and an above ground pool.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp program includes riding twice daily, lessons in horse care, a horsy craft and time to cool off in the pool at the end of the day. We have a mini horse show every Friday and invite parents/grandparents/guests to watch. After the show we have pizza and cold drinks for everyone and present awards.

We teach a curriculum (see our website) so campers coming more than one week learn new things. No riding experience is necessary but we group by experience so those who have ridden before ride with others with similar skills. We teach English or Western riding.

We have one week for Junior campers ages 4 - 6, one week for teen campers 12 and up and 7 weeks for ages 7 - 11.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Leadership Program.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Discounts for additional weeks or additional members of the same family.

OTHER CAMP INFO: We are licensed by the state of Maryland. Staff have all completed background investigations and first aid/cpr training.
